Well,
sabbaticals generally last longer than 13 months, but
in the case of the Ground Floor there doesn't seem to
be any particular linear timetable. I, like many of you
out there, have had a very busy year to reflect upon.
For myself, I'm a year older, possibly six months wiser
and adorn a new hairstyle that allows me to make hairpin
turns without the accustomed possibility of a severe
whiplash. People have asked me whether I missed being
on the radio. My typical answer was" yes and no." I really
needed a breather after thirteen plus years of radio
and print ministry. It was a time of personal and spiritual
growth, with some major challenges tossed in for seasoning.
The Lord and I have been going through our usual wrestling
matches. He normally wins, but I am learning to plead
for mercy by calling out Father, Father, instead of "uncle." The
fifteen extra pounds I've inherited are a combination
of carrying bags of cement, toting pipe wrenches and
managing drywall while trying to feed two inner children
and supporting a little excess baggage from the past
wherever I go. I'm sure you can relate. Have I mentioned
that I am very glad to be back with a newly remodeled
Ground Floor, a classic rock excursion from the 70's,
80's and 90's. I consider you who listened to this audio
journey to be part of the family. An outreach, a haven,
an oasis from the mundane and thoughtless drivel propelled
by the major media puppeteers. For the most part, you're
in our age range ... you rocked with the Partridge Family,
you cried for Jimmy and his magic flute, you watched
the last Pup n' Taco's disappear without a whimper, you
remember seeing Stryper play at Irvine Meadows in 1987
for $15.50, you used to follow Undercover from church
to club to amusement park and stay for hours after just
to say hi to Ojo and the Boys, you got lost, you got
found, you got married, then divorced, then angry, you
got revived, maybe reborn, you got rich, you got milk,
you cut down on bad cholesterol, you called seven churches
your home over a one year period, you saw the light,
you hungered for some good time Christian Rock n' Roll
... and you prayed, and you talked to others, who talked
to the powers that be ... and the Ground Floor was resurrected,
for all the right reasons ... to reach out to the thousands
whose personal testimonies are intertwined with a particular
sound, a concert experience, a provoking lyric, an altar
call at a small church behind the orange curtain, an
era, whether it be the early 70's when this Jesus movement
started to promote its own sound, the sweet sound of
innocence, humility and of course, ministry, apparently
you've needed a live forum to revisit your roots for
many years and the Ground Floor will continue its legacy
by bringing those great memories back to you and your
family every Saturday night ... from Love Song to Love
Life. And more than just pushing a few red buttons to
ignite a few moments of exhilaration, we offer you the
more important mission of being there spiritually and
emotionally with a very thoughtful staff of volunteers
that look forward to praying for you and listening to
your needs and concerns.
As
a very young boy, I used to tuck my AM transistor radio
into my pillow in order to be whisked away to far off
lands across the dial, whether it be late night rap sessions
or the latest hit from the Guess Who or 10CC.
As
a slightly older man, now on the other end of the transistor
radio for the last Sixteen years, I know how much you
depend on making that same connection with us in order
to find that constant, that equation which allows you
to absorb something deeper than a few million deflected
radio waves. The Ground Floor is designed for you and
requires only one thing from you, the recipient. Listen
with an open mind and become in intercessor for the many
people listening who are looking for a breakthrough in
their lives. Lift them up, turn us up and ultimately,
thank God for Rock n' Roll.
Thank
you for your years of support.
Call
us and let us know you're with us for the long haul.
We really want to have a classic reunion. Call and I'll
get on with the mission at hand.
